To remove the bayonet the spring plunger is depressed, moved forward, the bayonet rotated and withdrawn vertically from the lugs.īlade form: slender circular sectioned blade, tapering gradually toward a narrow point that is reminiscent of a flat screwdriver head. Overall form of socket, not unnaturally, reflects the configuration of the fore-end of the associated firearm. The rear of the spring plunger is formed into a rectangular latch, grooved for grip. The longitudinally moving radial faced locking catch is operated by a spring plunger housed immediately below socket. The socket fits over the muzzle of the No 4 rifle and two recesses at rear engage with two lugs on the firearm's barrel. Socket form: short cylindrical barrel socket, offset approximately 26 mm above blade on broad flat sided shoulder.
